Reaching College Students and Young Adults in Your Community

Every community is different – if we want to reach someone in our community, then we have to know who that person is, what they’re doing, and how we can connect with them. 

Our story of Young Adult Ministry – on the video

Our Ministry Model:

• Philippians 3:12-14
  Not that I have already reached the goal or am perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus.
  Brothers and Sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead,
  I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.
• Reach the Young Adults already in our church
  • Recent High School graduates in our church
  • Any current college students in our church
  • Any single adults up to age 28 or so
• Reach their friends and family
  • Coworkers
  • Classmates 
  • Buddies from the gym or Starbucks (insert your favorite hobby here)
  • Family members who fit the class specs

How to minister to Young Adults:

• Tell them the truth – according to scripture
  • Talk about things relevant to them, but don’t spend all your time telling them what they’re doing wrong – let the Holy Spirit do that – He’s much better at it than we are.
  • Don’t avoid tough subjects – if scripture talks about it, then we will talk about it
• Spend time with them – having fun opens the door for really important conversations
  • Find things they like to do – and do them – sports, movies, hanging out, eating
• Spend money on them – include young adult ministry in your budget. (we provide supper for them every Thursday night – some nights are really simple and cheap, others are more involved)
• Spend time preparing, planning and contacting
• Invite them into your life – they need to see healthy, happy, real couples and families – so show them
