The early church got together for some specific purposes. Acts 2:42 tells us what those were: doctrinal teaching, fellowship, eating together, and praying.
If I were to write a book on the way to a great church, I probably wouldn’t list those exact things. Or if I did list those things, would I really do them? I’m afraid I would put them down because they are in scripture, but I would then begin to work a plan that I came up with on my own.
We can talk about doctrinal teaching, fellowship, and eating together later, but the prayer part is our focus. I love the line in the reading today that says “which is more important – private prayer or corporate (group) prayer? The answer is YES!”
Neither is more important. We are supposed to do both because that is the model we see in Jesus. I’m sorry I haven’t put enough emphasis on group prayers when we gather. I pledge to you that will change starting Thursday night this week.
